"THE ONLY WAY OUT IS IN"
Director's Statement
I have the opportunity to go on pilgrimage to India in 2006 with the attitude to religion in terms of recipient and donor. If I show a respect and follow a doctrine. Something that beyond own understanding as men took to attach to religion. (ex. Karma, the will of God), will give something back. Life will better. A place in heaven as a destination of life after death.

After all, my life goes on as its use to be, no worse no better, I'm not sure about heaven part because I still sitting here and type this text. And I hope not to figure it out too soon.
So it's bring me to questions, can only faith take us to heaven? What can we really gain from pilgrimage, besides souvenir? And most of all what is religion?
What make Buddhism different from other religion is that Lord Buddha taught us not to easily believe in anything even what he told, until we carefully considered it. There is a thin line between belief and credulity, a conflict between faith and wisdom.
Lord Buddha challenges us to prove what he taught is true or not and I accept that challenge. ‘Three marks of existence’ is a method I used by transform Buddhism’s abstract concept to a story of searching a path to a state of true peaceful, no sorrow and happiness, no birth and death, it’s a state of Nirvana.

Synopsis
M, a young man who has faced various problems in his life, has decided to follow a journey of the Lord Buddha to the four main pilgrimage sites including Lumbini (the birth place), Sarnath (where he delivered his first teaching), Bodh Gaya (the place of his Enlightenment), and Kusinara (the place of Buddha’s nirvana). He wishes that this journey will be another way of making a merit which would return him all the good things.
Along the trip, M has faced various situations and people that gradually shaped and changed his attitude toward religion and his life. Uncle Kamol, an old man who is suffering from the death of his beloved daughter. He turned to believe in all kinds of super natural methods with the hope that they would allow him to communicate and contact with his daughter.
Jane, a beloved son of a millionaire who has been spoiled his life with all the night life and things that never bring him a true happiness during the whole life. And Yukiko, a Japanese pilgrim, being diagnosed as a non-curing disease to prepare herself for the death. M is not confident to answer whether he has made a merit from his voyage. He is also in doubt whether he has met the Lord Buddha. However, he feels confused and mixed. He felt not only happiness but sadness through the time which become the beginning of the journey in his mind to face the origin of suffer, himself.
